Performing Arts

It was 1968 when Vance Ormes, a 16-year-old BGA student, thought it was time for Franklin to have
its own community theatre. After becoming interested in theatre in school, he gathered with several
of his parents' friends, and within a few months Pull-Tight's first production, Our Town, was off and
rolling. Soon Pull-Tight found a more permanent home at an old jailhouse on Bridge Street. However,
a few dinner theatre performances were held at the Holiday Inn on Highway 96.

Other homes through the years have included Freedom Intermediate School, which was Franklin Junior

High School at time, Page High School, and even outdoors at Carter's Court. In 1979 Pull-Tight moved
into what is now the public defenders' office at 405 Main Street. It was a long, narrow space that held
about 75 patrons. In 1985 we moved into our present home, complete with a late-night costume parade
and a police escort down Main Street. Our current location is our favorite thus far because it is a
charming old building that has served as a grocery store, a restaurant, an antique store, and other
things, but mostly because it provides an intimate setting for a great performance.
