joyce darden
Painter

Joyce was born and raised in Lewiston, Maine, then moved to Nashville in the 60's and resided there for approximately 40 years working as a legal secretary.  After retiring from the legal field, and in order to get away from the fast lane of Nashville, she moved to a little town called Hohenwald, TN, where she has been residing since 2000.  Having always loved art (in any and all forms), she began painting classes sometime in '01/'02 and has continued to paint on her own (taking classes intermittently).  She is constantly discovering our world, filled with color and form, and interpret the beauty of what her eyes see. For her, painting is a way for her spirit to be free while her brush forms images in color which never ceases to amaze her.

Josephine Dye
Painter

Born in Mississippi, she became amazed at the beauty of the Southern Magnolias. This sparked her interest so then she started to research and photograph other species native to her home state. This in turn lead her to discover a talent that enabled her to develop a more unique and personal style of painting.

She then attended all the workshops and read all the literature that she could get her hands on becoming a self-taught artist. This enthusiasm lead her to an even greater gift then she could ever have imagined.  She started to develop a “joy of painting” which then lead her to the gift of teaching. She believes that the wonders of painting come from someone greater than us, and that our job as an artist is to pass this gift to others.  Whether they be students or buyers.  If she can make someone smile through her works then that is her gift from GOD.

In 1990, she enrolled in the Bob Ross Certification Program at the Murfreesboro, TN campus.  She became a certified instructor in Landscape and Floral techniques.  After which, she enrolled at the New Smyrna Beach, Florida campus and completed her certification in Wildlife and Portrait. This development lead to a greater understanding of teaching and enhanced her life with her students. She also holds a certificate as a Master Teacher of The Michael Wilcox School of Color in England.

Julie Harvey
Painter

Julie Harvey is a visual artist from Franklin, Tennessee.  Her images are abstracted dream-like visuals that come from the quiet and dark places one might expect, but they are also quite approachable at the same time.  The paintings are usually on large canvases, varying in size up to as large as 60” x 60”.  The subjects are deconstructed, distorted versions of objects or organic bodies, but sometimes they are less literal, leaving the door open to interpretation.  Her goal in each painting is to ignite some kind of personal reaction that relates to others in some way, so she usually keeps any kind of psychology or concept about the work to herself and lets the viewer decide on the meaning.  Brushes are used for soft areas, blended colors, and transparent washes; trowels layer on the large patches of color and texture; and knives do the digging, tearing, and scratching-through that make up the grit you will find in her work.  She has a large number of finished pieces available for viewing via email or the web for any prospective buyers or anyone interested in showing her work.

Nancy Hilgert
Graphite Artist

As a very young girl, Ms. Hilgert’s time, passion and attention fell solidly with animals, the outdoors and putting those images to paper.  Drawing constantly from the first crayon, a deep connection with nature has been a theme throughout her life and art career, in addition to time in the corporate world, and 16 years as proprietor of a successful equestrian facility in Middle Tennessee.  Pets, horses and botanical compositions, some with expansive landscape settings, are among some of the body of her work.

Still pursuing those themes among others, some of what Nancy has put into limited edition prints, cards and giclee have been renderings of  her favorite, The Walker Sister’s Cabin of Little Greenbriar, Tennessee, as part of The Smokies Series.  These works done in graphite and colored pencil in vivid detail.  Working in pencil as much as 50 hours on a single 16” x 20” image, Nancy employs great attention to detail, representing even the smallest of aspects as important to the sum of the greater image.

Nancy is happy to be active on exciting new themes, projects and shows, offering original works as well as giclee for collectors.  Her work is displayed in private collections in seven states as well as corporate offices in Tennessee and Georgia.  A graduate of the University of Tennessee Art and Architecture Department, she and attributes much of her success to the instruction she received from the exceptional faculty there and their advice to follow her greatest passions for the subject matter in her work.

Anne Rob
Jeweler

My designs usually evolve around some visually interesting stones which I have carefully chosen for a particular piece of jewelry. The stones may stand alone in a design or they may complement each other.

My choices in stones are mostly the colorful minerals such as lapis lazuli, sugilite, chrisocola, and others that are cut by lapidaries into various one-of-a-kind shapes. I may add a semiprecious or precious cabochon or faceted stone to the work if I think that it enhances the design. My jewelry pieces are, therefore, mostly unique.

Before I execute a design in metal, it may have gone through a number of changes on paper. I sketch the shapes and proportions, decide on details such as a high polish or brushed and antiqued finish, or whether or not I have to add surface texture to emphasize certain lines and forms. All of these elements have to be combined to come together into the final, exciting design.

Norb Skalski
Artist

Norb's work is driven by the core of human existence, emotion, and it's external presence. He's sees himself as a social critic who has developed expressionistic style in the context of Van Gogh, Picasso, as well as such abstract expressionists as Nolde, Kirschner and Munch.

Primarily interested in figurative art composition, he has always avoided easy moralistic judgements, preferring to explore primal human characteristics that become apparent to the viewer only after he or she has spent ample time considering them.

The two worlds of talents converged in the spring of 1997 as we made our first original lamp.

We use metals, wood, glass and found treasures to create our unique and whimsical pieces, borrowing from the past to proceed into the future. Looking at each item in a new light motivates our creativity and allows us to be totally free in adapting any idea into a functioning piece of art.

Marilyn Farnsworth Wendling
Oil

Marilyn’s zest for life and exuberance are evident in her Alla Prima works in oil.  Her command of light and color harmony takes place using a very limited palette.  Marilyn’s passion is translated into her sought after works which she exhibits in local and regional shows, juried competitions, invitational plein air events and in fine art galleries in the Southeast and New England.  In 2009 Marilyn had the distinguished honor of having one of her paintings placed in the permanent collection of the Tennessee governor’s mansion.  She is also an artist member and currently serves on the Board of The Chestnut Group ~ plein air painters for the land in Tennessee.  She has studied with Scott Christiansen, Ken Backhaus, Paula Frizbe and Ken Auster, to name a few.  Marilyn resides in Franklin, Tennessee and New London, New Hampshire.

“I paint because I am compelled to ~ each painting representing a new challenge.  The thrill experienced in having successfully captured the essence and emotion of a scene is unparalleled!”
